Southampton Concert Orchestra's Upcoming Concerts

In 2024 we will celebrate our 60th year. We will be hosting our 60th Anniversary Concert in the summer with a performance of Mahler 7 at Romsey Abbey. We will finish the year with a performance of Petrushka and Dvorak Cello Concerto at Turner Sims.

Southampton Concert Orchestra will be playing the following concerts in Southampton and Romsey.

Upcoming Concerts

Rite of Spring, Sibelius 2 and Dumbarton Oaks

Come with us on a journey through three powerful visions of musical transformation. Igor Stravinsky’s Dumbarton Oaks, a neoclassical gem whose elegance and wit conceal dazzling rhythmic invention. From there, we plunge into the raw, elemental force of The Rite of Spring, the groundbreaking masterpiece that shook the musical world with its primal rhythms and ritualistic energy. To close, we ascend toward triumph with Jean Sibelius’s Symphony No. 2 — a sweeping work of yearning, resilience, and ultimate exultation. Together, these pieces trace a path from refinement to upheaval to renewal — a testament to music’s power to provoke, challenge, and uplift

My Favourite Concert

Cerys Rowcliffe - Leader

July 2022

Romsey Abbey

Programme:

Lutoslawski - Symphonic Variations
Scriabin - Poem of Ecstasy
Shostakovich - Symphony no. 7 "Leningrad"

"This was a particularly challenging programme and the whole orchestra worked together to give a performance I was very proud of.

The Scriabin and Lutoslawski were unfamiliar to most of us, but our weeks of rehearsal paid off, especially in the Scriabin, with the Abbey providing the perfect venue for this huge work.

Shostakovich is one of my favourite composers with this Symphony being one of his best. I wont forget the emotion or exhilaration felt after the final note for a long time!"
